At one point a frustrated worker could be seen on his hands and knees trying to lure the dog to come to him.

But when the animal refused to be caught, officials at La Guardia Airport in New York pulled her owner Austin Varner off her flight to deal with her pet.The 26-year-old interior designer said Byrdie was surrounded by staff, adding: “She was just standing there.

"She didn’t want to come to them. But she came right to me, and we got her.”Byrdie’s escape ground flights to a halt for about 20 minutes.

Flier Robert Lund tweeted: “We can’t take off because there is apparently a loose dog (!) running around on the runway.”He added: “How did he get through security?”

And an air-traffic controller said in his radio: “We got a dog running like crazy down there.”When Varner and Byrdie finally got back to the plane, workers loaded the dog in her crate — shutting it with 20 zip ties to make sure she there was no repeat.
