New Charge Filed Against Deion Sanders in Domestic Case
Deion and Pilar filed for divorce last December, but still lived in the same residence in Prosper, in separate wings. The marriage has had its share of theatrics: the couple starred in their own reality series on Oxygen in 2008 called Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love. And the Associated Press reports that Pilar is suing Deion Sanders and his daughter from his first marriage, as well as Prime Time Enterprise Inc., for $200 million in damages in a case scheduled for trial in September. She’s also suing Deion’s aunt, Laura Jones, saying Jones assaulted her in February in their home while Deion Sanders watched.
“I understand that I have very little chance at beating a Hall of Fame, two-sport man that everyone seems to love and adore,” ABC reports Pilar saying following her release from jail yesterday. “I’m a full-time mom, 100 percent for my children. And I just haven’t been given a fair shake.”
On Monday, Pilar, a model who appeared on a 2008 Oxygen network reality series about her and her famous husband’s home life, Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love, was arrested and jailed on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge after allegedly assaulting Deion in his bedroom. While authorities haven’t released details about the alleged attack, Deion Sanders gave a first hand testimony via Twitter shortly after it occurred, writing that his children “just witnessed their mother and a friend jump me in my room.”
After an overnight stay at Colin County Jail in Texas, a magistrate judge issued an emergency protective order against Pilar, banning her from entering the ex-couple’s home for 60 days and barring her from threatening or harassing her husband.
On her way out of jail Tuesday, Pilar told reporters:
“I am innocent. I understand that I have a very little chance at beating a Hall of Fame, two-sport man that everyone seems to love and adore. I am a full-time mom 100 percent for my children and I have just not gotten a fair shake.”
ABC News added Tuesday that Larry Friedman, Pilar Sanders’ divorce attorney, couldn’t comment on his client’s arrest because there is a gag order in the former couple’s ongoing divorce case.
“I can tell you that there are two sides to every story and the truth will come out in court,” he said in a statement.
Cops in Prosper, Texas investigated the altercation that went down Monday at Deion's home ... and decided to give him a ticket for misdemeanor simple assault.
As TMZ first reported, Pilar was arrested a few hours after the incident ... in which Deion claims she and a friend jumped him. Pilar didn't get off as easy as Deion -- she was arrested and posed for a mug shot ... albeit a pretty glamorous one.
Pilar was booked for a misdemeanor ... "assault family violence."
Police in Prosper, Texas, where the couple live, said further investigation of the domestic violence claims led to a charge also being filed against the football star. The charge, which did not lead to Sanders’ arrest, covers any act considered aggressive and carries a fine of up to $500, Prosper police spokesman Celso Martinez told the Associated Press.
Sanders’ arrest is the latest chapter in a “War of Roses” divorce drama that neither side has been afraid to make public.
On Monday the Hall of Famer tweeted that his estranged wife attacked him in front of their kids.
“Pray for me and my kids now! They just witnessed their mother and a friend jump me in my room. She’s going to jail n I’m pressing charges!,” he wrote. He also posted a photo of himself with two of his sons, ages 10 and 12, filling out police reports. He later removed the photos from the site.
