Obiwan Kenobi arrested

Obiwan Kenobi arrested

Obiwan Kenobi arrested, Police arrest man named Obiwan Kenobi, In disappointing news for the galaxy, police say that 37-year-old Obiwan Kenobi was arrested in Roseville, Ore., after he allegedly turned to the dark side . Kenobi, previously named Benjamin Cale Feit, reportedly changed his name to that of the "Star Wars" Jedi Knight's in 1999, after a radio station offered $1,000 to anyone who would do it Obiwan Kenobi, 37, was recently arrested after crashing his landspeeder into another vehicle and causing a five car pileup, then fleeing the scene. Plus he was already wanted for petty theft. The dark side: it's a slippery slope. No word if any Sith showed him their lightsabers while in the clink, but if it was anything like the last time I was there, TONS OF EVIL PEEN.

Formerly known as Benjamin Cale Feit, Kenobi changed his name in 1999 in response to a radio stunt tied to the release of "Stars Wars: Episode I." A California station offered $1000 to the first listener to legally change their name to that of the fictional Jedi master.
First of all, that's not even a driver's license -- that's an identification card. Does Obiwan even HAVE a license? Secondly, after making the quick grand, why not change your name back like a real person? I mean, if going by Obiwan Kenobi was actually cool, don't you think more people would do it? Generally radio stations don't award people for doing things they should be proud of.

Thanks to LadySherlock, Bradley, Nathan J., LupusYonderboy, Mark V. and Kyle, who agree there was probably a lot of "this is not the ass you're looking for" going on in jail that night.
A man in California, who legally changed his name to Obiwan Kenobi, was allegedly responsible for a 5-car accident in which he fled the scene, the Auburn Press Tribune reported.

Turns out, the 37-year-old Star Wars fan was already wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor petty theft charge. He was charged with a felony for his role in the hit-and-run.Kenobi, named after Obi-Wan Kenobi, was born Benjamin Cale Feit. He changed his name as part of a radio station contest back in 1999. Perhaps Benjamin should have heed the advice of Yoda when he clearly stated:

“Told you I did. Reckless is he. Now, matters are worse.”

Matters are significantly worse now that Feit has been caught perpetrating yet another criminal act as he fled the scene of an accident that he induced. Kenobi was released by authorities on Thursday after having allocated five days of his life in jail. He was released without bail and his court appearance was scheduled for April 30.

Yahoo News reported that the hit-and-run charge may have taken the trophy for “biggest accident in Kenobi’s life” away from his prior decision to associate himself with The Phantom Menace by changing his name to Obiwan Kenobi.

The arrest record indicates Obiwan was arrested by the Roseville Police Department and charged with a hit and run. He was booked on 4/21/2012 and later released on 4/26/2012. His custody status reads “Pre-Trial EMP Release.”

What are your thoughts on this odd individual’s decision to legally change his name to reference a character from the epic Star Wars series, Obiwan Kenobi?

Obi-Wan Kenobi seems to have gotten tired of hitching rides in that Skywalker kid's battered old X-34 landspeeder and got himself a green Toyota, which he crashed while trying to squeeze between two lanes of stopped cars. This occurred in Roseville, CA and not Mos Eisley, Tattooine.

Then he drove away, causing both a great disturbance in the force and, soon after, his arrest. Kenobi, who may in fact just be some 37-year old dork legally named "Obiwan Kenobi," was charged with hit-and-run and an unrelated petty theft charge.

Though it's not mentioned in the article, sources suggest he had stolen an R2 unit and a protocol droid. When questioned by police, he repeatedly insisted that the droids were not the ones sought by the police. He also waved his hand in a strange manner while speaking.
If you’re going to legally change your name to that of a fictional Star Wars character for a radio station contest, you should probably make your fifteen minutes of fame really, really boss. Like, saving a child from a burning building boss. Apparently Benjamin Kale Feit thinks differently, as he’s using his time in the spotlight to wreak havoc on the streets of California.

To save on confusion, I’ll just refer to him by his legal name. Kenobi was arrested on a hit-and-run charge last week that involved at least five cars, which became a felony charge after police discovered he already had a warrant out for a misdemeanor petty theft. He spent five nights in jail and had a court date set for yesterday; no news yet on the judgement handed down, or how many times the judge had to stifle laughter when he read Kenobi’s name out loud.

The name change was part of a 1999 radio contest for “Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace” and won Kenobi a cool $1,000. Too bad he can’t perform a Jedi mind trick to make all this bad press go away.
