Jerry Lewis collapsing definitely had people very worried. The 86-year-old funnyman has not been in the best health and over the past few years he seems to be getting worse. Naturally this is to be expected since he is getting older but his fans are very worried about him. A drop in blood sugar is common amongst people who have diabetes and while it can be very serious, it usually isn't life-threatening if rectified in a timely manner. Lewis was likely treated and released feeling brand new once more.
Believe it or not, this type of thing happens a lot.Comedian Jerry Lewis was rushed to a New York hospital Tuesday night after collapsing due to low blood sugar. The 86-year-old funnyman was scheduled to receive an award at the Friars Club Tuesday night and present the top honor to Tom Cruise.
A Friars Club representative issued a statement to ABCNews.com saying ”Jerry Lewis was so sorry to miss the Icon Award presentation to Tom Cruise last night, but is feeling much better today and is back at his hotel, and thanks everyone for their good wishes.”
After Lewis collapsed at the Waldorf Astoria, guests waiting at the Friars Club gala were informed that he would no longer be accepting the Applause Award or present Cruise with the Entertainment Icon Award.
Still, the 49-year-old Mission Impossible star was presented with the prestigious award by his “Jerry Maguire” co-star, Cuba Gooding Jr., and NBC’s Matt Lauer.
“I am sorry Jerry couldn’t be here tonight,” Cruise said during his acceptance speech, “but I know he is going to be fine.”
